The All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared that the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) will suffer electoral defeat in 2027 due to its bias towards the Kano Emirate crisis.

According to the APC, the NNPP’s presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, lacks national appeal to be Nigeria’s president.

In a statement issued on Monday in Abuja, the APC State Chairman, Abdullahi Abbas, said the party is now more united, popular, and will deliver triple the votes it got in the last presidential election in Kano state due to the failures of the current administration in the state.

Abbas dismissed claims by the NNPP Kano State Chairman, Hashimu Dungurawa, that the lingering Emirship tussle may negatively affect President Bola Tinubu’s second-term ambition in 2027. Instead, the APC chieftain said the NNPP and its national leader, Kwankwaso, will suffer the consequences of the ongoing Emirship crisis.

The APC chairman accused the NNPP of frustration in the state and the nation’s political scene, citing the party’s dismal failures and Kwankwaso’s poor performance in the 2023 presidential election. He noted that Kwankwaso’s presidential debut was intended to test his national outlook, remain relevant, manipulate the way for his son-in-law to have his way, and reclaim Kano from the ruling APC.

Abbas pointed out that Kwankwaso’s performance in the 2023 election was dismal, getting only 1,454,649 total votes, representing 6.23%, mostly from Kano.

“How come Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the opposition Labour Party from far away South East bested Kwankwaso in 13 northern states of Kaduna, Taraba, Borno, Gombe, Kebbi, Kogi, Kwara, Niger, Sokoto, Nasarawa, Plateau, Adamawa and Benue?” He queried.
