Selection
Nominations for recipients of the Niger Delta Peace Ambassador Award are sought widely throughout the nine states of the region. Final selection of the recipients is made by the Award Board of Trustees. The governing principles for awarding of the Niger Delta Peace Ambassador Award are:
- the protection and respect for human rights;
- peaceful settlement of disputes; and
- good governance of public affairs/empowerment.
Presentation
The 2018 Niger Delta Peace Ambassador Award will be presented to all recipients at a gala evening in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, to communities institutions and individuals that both embodies these principles and fulfils the criteria governing the Award.
Niger Peace Hero Posthumous Award for
2018 –
RECIPIENTS:- 1. Major Isaac Jasper Adaka Boro (September 10, 1938 – May 9, 1968), fondly called “Boro”, was a Nigerian nationalist, Ijaw, and soldier. He was one of the pioneers of minority rights activism in Nigeria.
2. “KEN” SARO-WIWA
Kenule Beeson “Ken” Saro-Wiwa (10 October 1941 – 10 November 1995.was a Nigerian writer, television producer, environmental activist, and winner of the Right Livelihood Award and the Goldman Environmental Prize.
These individuals are chosen as recipients of the 2018 Niger Delta Peace Ambassador Award as an affirmation of their efforts in bringing equality and for peace building.
Niger Delta Peace Ambassador Award specifically acknowledges the role of awardee’s long-term transformation, inclusive social and economic development, peacefully resolving violent conflicts and building good governance on the Delta. The Award also recognises the work of the Awardees in the struggle against abuse of human rights.
Speaking with the media recently in Abuja, the Principal Partner Amb. Chris ODEY said the event is expected to have the nine Governors of the nine states of the Niger Delta in attendance, and he concluded by saying the 2018 award nominees names will be released to the public via media soon.
The event is billed to hold on the 21st of April at the Presidential Hotel, Port Harcourt Rivers State, Nigeria.
