The federal government has expressed its desire to partner with stakeholders in using sports, particularly cycling to promote the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals SDGs.

Senior Special Assistant SSA to the President on SDGs, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire disclosed on Wednesday in Abuja at the official unveiling of a cycling competition tagged, Racing for Sustainable Development slated for February 24. “Racing for Sustainable Development Goals is an exclusive awareness campaign geared to promote 10 goals out of the 17 SDGs through Cycling sport as well as embracing the culture of cycling in our daily activities”, she said.

Among the goals under focus are eradication of poverty, provision of good health and well-being, quality education, gender equality, affordable and clean energy, climate change, industry, innovation and infrastructure among others.

President of Dapper Exclusive Style, facilitators of the competition, Mr Femi Akanji said no fewer than 300 cyclists made of professionals and veterans are expected to participate in the competition. While the professional cyclists would race for 74 kilometres, the veterans would race for 34 kilometres, saying apart from several cash prizes for participants, members of the public would be given a climate change discount card with which to purchase bicycles at highly discounted rates.
